Guardie e ladri. An Exhibition in Palazzo Pitti
L’Arma per l’Arte
Aspetti del sacro ritrovati
Galleria Palatina, Sala Bianca
21 November 2009 – 6 April 2010
Since 1969 the Carabinieri (Army Police) Nucleo Tutela Patrimonio Artistico – unit for the protection of the artistic heritage – has been tracking down and bringing home stolen artworks. The Guardie e Ladri [Cops and Robbers] exhibition in Palazzo Pitti highlights part of the important job they do to protect Italy’s cultural heritage.
The exhibition centers mainly on religious art – quality paintings and objects from churches, monasteries, convents and even museums that made headlines when they were stolen.
