Hanging out in prison. Le Murate
What was once the city’s prison is now a place for contemporary culture and a home for international ideas and projects.
Now that the buildings have been upgraded and restored, there is a new vitality and creative spirit – with a café, some shops and the refuge of some “Smart Dissidents”, generation 2.0 political activists and bloggers who make themselves heard via Internet.
Le Murate also hosts SUC – Spazi Urbani Contemporanei [Contemporary Urban Spaces]: a permanent workshop of ideas that is the city’s fulcrum for the visual arts, music, theater, performances along with film, fashion, botany and cuisine. Barcamp, is the place for informal get together for open discussions on selected topics.
