Villas and gardens. Art and Archeological Surprises at the Gates of Florence

The 2010 edition of Piccoli Grandi Musei is offering a five-stage itinerary that will take you beyond the “gates of Florence”: Villa Corsini di Castello, Villa Medicea della Petraia, the gardens of the Villa Medicea di Castello, the Montagnola Etruscan tomb and the Museo Richard-Ginori in Sesto Fiorentino – plus the Palazzo Medici Riccardi here in town.

The first step is a tour of the new Antiquarium of the Museo Archeologico of Florence at the Villa Corsini which, among outstanding pieces, hosts the Apollo as an Archer (Roman sculpture).

Not too far away, the Medici villas at Castello and Petraia will welcome visitors with Un percorso tra gli agrumi (a path among citrus trees) and the exhibition Preziosi tesori in villa (treasures in the villa) – staged specifically for the season.

Moving on to Sesto Fiorentino you will see the Montagnola Etruscan tomb that has been reopened to the public – this is the third leg of the tour before reaching the Museo Richard-Ginori della Manifattura di Doccia where there is an exhibition of ceramics dedicated to the famous Medici Venus.
