“Just outside Florence… Gloria”

Church of San Giovanni Evangelista at Ponsacco (Pisa)

Another “not-to-miss” event outside Florence: one of Italy’s and Europe’s outstanding choirs, the Coro Galilei of Pisa, soloists Gabriella Cecchi (soprano), Tiziana Fogli (contralto) and Romano Martinuzzi (basso), and its orchestra playing original instruments, conducted by Maestro Francesco, will perform two selections of High Baroque sacred music.

The first is the famous Gloria by Antonio Vivaldi, and the other marvelous, but less known (so this is a wonderful opportunity to hear it), Gloria by the Venetian composer Antonio Lotti.
Both men were active in Venice, as teachers too, with Vivaldi at the famous Ospedale della Pietà and Lotti at the equally renowned Ospedale degli Incurabili and may have influenced each other’s work.

These compositions are part of the great Baroque legacy of sacred music for voice.
