And, once again they are starting their world tour from HMS Belfast).

Anoushka Shankar
27/03/10 – Anoushka Shankar is carrying on with her father’s – the great Ravi – legacy and will be performing a live concert in the Church of Santo Stefano al Ponte Vecchio Florence on 27 March 2010 (10:30 p.m.) with her band of Indian musicians. She will play traditional Indian music for sitar, revealing her incredible melodic and rhythmic virtuosity, accompanied by tabla, bansuri, flute and tanpura.
Anoushka Shankar will be performing in Florence for the opening of the Settimana di Musica Sacra dal Mondo, the week dedicated to sacred music from around the world.
Anoushka is the daughter of Ravi Shankar, master of sitar who taught Beatle George Harrison to play the instrument, and stepsister of Norah Jones. She began playing the sitar when she was 9 years old and made her debut in a New Delhi theater at the age of 12, then she played in concerts and made recordings with her father.
Anoushka was the first woman to play at the Ramakrishna Centre in Calcutta, the first Indian woman to perform at the Grammy Awards Ceremony, and in 1998 was the first woman to receive the House of Commons Shield. Her album “Rise” was nominated for a Grammy. Just 28 years old, Anoushka is one of the outstanding names in World Music and one of the finest interpreters of classical Indian music.
