From now through April, the Amici della Musica di Firenze presents truly fantastic concerts at the Teatro della Pergola.
In addition to world-famous names (that you can check out at www.amicimusica.fi.it, since there are too many to list here) including Radu Lupu, Murray Perahia, Lucchesini, Uto Ughi, Kristian Zimmermann, Alexander Lonquich, and Heinz Holliger I have to mention two of the most unusual concerts.
The first – 7 February at 9:00 p.m. – features one of the greatest conductors of early music, Philippe Herreweghe of Belgium directing the Collegium Vocale Gent (one of today’s finest vocal ensembles) with a vocal program of Music for Santa Barbara (the magnificent basilica in Mantua built by Guglielmo Gonzaga and known for the most sublime music of the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries) by Palestrina, Monteverdi, and de Wert.
The second is very different indeed: on 28 February at 9:00 p.m. you will be able to hear the incredible and exhilarating duo of Michael Copley (playing all types of wind instruments from the crumhorn to the flute) and Ian Moore (accordion), and members of the Classic Buskers performing a program of MiniClassics – arrangements and musical scherzos of compositions by Rossini, Mascagni, Vivaldi, Tchaikovsky and others.
