FLORENCE MARATHON
The annual Florence Marathon will be held on Sunday, November 27, and take runners throughout the historic center of Florence. The race will begin on Lungarno Pecori and snake through the streets of the city, passing near the monuments of the Duomo, Piazza della Signoria, Ponte Vecchio, and ending at Piazza Santa Croce. The course consists of 42 kilometers and 195 meters (26 miles and 385 yards). Occurring simultaneously with the Marathon, there will be the Family Run, which will be easy for runners at any level, with a course of 2 kilometers, and departing from and ending in Piazza Santa Croce. Last year, there was a record number of participants in the Marathon, as 10,200 runners from 62 countries invaded the city. To participate in the Marathon, you need to register by November 15. The registration cost is 70 euros for Italian residents and 90 euros for foreigners.
To celebrate reaching the finish line, participants and the public are invited to the Marathon Party on Sunday night at 7 pm after the run at the Obihall on Lungarno Aldo Moro. Guests will enjoy the show “Forever Seventy” while dining on a menu of typical Tuscan dishes. Later in the night, there will be dancing to 70′s music. The event costs 10 euros for marathon runners and 15 euros for everyone else.
