Mushroom and Tortello Festival
|April 11th, 2012||to||April 23rd, 2012|
Discover the local gastronomic tradition of the Mugello, an area in the nearby countryside, this weekend at the town of Borgo San Lorenzo, where the St. George mushroom and tortello festival will be held. Ushering in the spring, the St. George mushroom (in Italian, Prugnolo) typically grows during this time of year in the Tuscan woodlands; meanwhile, the tortello is a stuffed handmade pasta, which, in the Mugello, is usually filled with potatoes. These two specialties will star in the main dishes offered during the festival, which will include grilled meats, such as Florentine steak, as well as tortello with a duck sauce. You will have the opportunity to try these delicious creations with lunch on Saturday and Sunday, and dinner Friday to Sunday.
The festival will take place in the Foro Boario on Via Caduti di Montelungo. Borgo San Lorenzo is easily reachable via train and bus from Florence. The festival will also be next weekend, April 20 to 22. For more information and to make reservations, see http://www.sagradeltortello.com/
