Simona Barbieri’s Twin-Set
By Brittany Leung (junior at John Hopkins University, and is currently studying abroad at Syracuse University. She interns at The Velvet Circle here in Florence.)
Simona Barbieri’s Twin-Set store opening on February 18 was a wonderful success, as crowds of people bustled inside to see the designer’s new location in Florence on Via Porta Rossa, at the corner of Via Calimala, 34/36R.
Before the store opening, one could only anticipate what was to come, by looking at the window displays, which not only featured clothing in classic colors of white, bronze, gray, midnight, and creative combinations of them, but also subtle colors, such as light pink and baby blue. These colors were found in eclectically mixed fabrics, and even in sequin dresses! Fashionistas already had intuitive hunches about Barbieri’s collection, even before the store opening.
During the opening, the place came to life even more at night, with a beautifully-lit atmosphere and grand ceiling displays. Mini refreshments and drinks were also casually served, as a DJ played music in the background.
Browsing through the large collection in a classy, yet relaxed, atmosphere, viewers could not only sense Barbieri’s wonderful knowledge in fashion design, but also in accessories, shoes, and interior design. Creating outfits through the window displays and accessorizing shirts and dresses with jewelry, scarves, and purses, Barbieri allured with a well-rounded collection. Some garments were even made by hand, which reveled in the fact that the handwork was a unique aspect of each individual garment, rather than a defect (in reference to any irregularities that may appear). And to put the cherry on top, a second floor provided even more new looks, including red and midnight colors mixed together. This allowed for even more people to relate to Barbieri’s style, one that is exquisite and keeps clients wanting more.
This designer definitely raised the standards of Florence fashion boutique openings and we can only expect more!
