How to Spend your Sunday back in Florence after a Weekend Away

By Katie Kennedy (ISI Florence)

It’s 4:30 p.m. You’ve just returned from your weekend in France/Ireland/Spain/Switzerland/etc. After a morning packed with travelling, you couldn’t be more thankful to be back in the charming land of Florence, Italy. Now what?

6 countries later, I’ve finally figured out the ideal late-afternoon recipe for a perfect wrap up of your weekend and a perfect start to your upcoming week.
First, chug water. After hours of taking planes, trains and automobiles to voyage home, you will find yourself surprised with how dehydrated you are. Drop the bags, head to the kitchen, and drink some water.

Next, unpack. It is most likely the LAST thing that you want to do at this moment, but you should put aside your exhaustion and give yourself 10 minutes to quickly throw all of your dirty clothes into the laundry right away. While you’re at it, place your passport and wallet back in their respected places. This will prevent you from having the ever-hated pileup of last weekends trip lingering in your room all week.

My third piece of advice, and easily the most enthralling of them all, is to go grab a panini at All’Antico Vinaio. Learn from my mistakes, Pino’s is actually closed on Sundays. So instead of munching on a Beags with Pesto, head down to the river and help yourself to a Summer Sandwich at All’Antico Vinaio. Consider this step your official “Welcome Home” engagement to Florence.

Once you’re all filed up and have had a nice walk filled with fresh air to the panini spot, head home and do what you’ve wanted to do this entire time; sleep.

There you have it, the 3 ingredient recipe to wrapping up a successful weekend trip and beginning a successful week. Drink water, unpack, and eat a panini. Enjoy!
