Schubert on Fortepiano

The warm wooden rehearsal hall of the Orchestra del Maggio Musicale Fiorentino hosts a cycle of concerts dedicated to Schubert’s late piano works performed on a piano of his time or “fortepiano”, the forefather of modern piano. The fortepiano has a distinctive sound and it was invented in Florence by Bartolomeo Cristofori. Each concert features noteworthy pieces among which stand out the Wanderer Fantasie in C major Op.15, the Fantasy in F minor Op 103 and Winterreise Op.89, an affecting cycle of songs metaphor of earthly life.
