International Brass Week

Trumpets, trombones, tubas, horns: this is the brass family. The best brass players from all over the world have been gathering in Florence for the 19th Italian Brass week. The program will feature daily matinée at the Teatro del Maggio Musicale, concerts at the Bargello Museum with the Orchestra da Camera Fiorentina and at the Arno’s edge. On the 26th, small brass ensembles will go around the city in fiacchere, the traditional horse drawn carriages, stopping and playing in musical landmarks. The following day, international trumpet soloists will improvise accompanied by a jazz trio on the Arengario in Piazza della Signoria. The main event will take place on the 28th, when at sunset two large brass ensembles will perform on Ponte Vecchio and at the shore below the Uffizi, while other small ensembles will join playing on board of the original boats used in the past by the Renaioli, the sand diggers. Closing concert on the 29th on the Arengario in Piazza della Signoria, with the a brass orchestra performing a varied programme ranging from Renaissance music to jazz, contemporary and world music.
