DESCRIPTION:by Saverio Pacchioni  \nAs for beauty Umbria is in no way inf
erior to Tuscany\, in fact it has been better preserved and probably meets
even more that harmonious whole of landscape\, light\, culture and lifestyl
e that one expects to find in Italy.\nThis must be the opinion  of the pia
nist Angela Hewitt\, the most celebrated Bach interpreter of our days\, to
the extent that she spends in Umbria most of the year.\nHowever\, she will
be soon again in Florence to fill our ears with real pleasure\nThe programm
e largely pivots around the first three French Suites\, together with the F
ifteen Inventions and the Toccata e Fuga 911.\nApparently it is an ‘educa
tional’ concert\, since Bach composed all of these works as teaching mate
rial for his family and his students. However this purpose doesn’t make t
hem less fine at all.\nSuite (from French suivre: to follow) is the name of
the Baroque sonata when its movements are made up of dances\, typically al
lemande\, courante\, sarabande and gigue as backbone\, and others varying e
ach time. Of French origin it developped much at first in Italy and then in
Germany where was also called Partita. The French Suites are very expressi
ve and intimate in character. In spite of the title and the French names of
each dance they have been so called mainly to distinguish them from  the
English Suites\, compared to which they are more simple and shorter. The In
ventions were composed to develop awareness of melody as well as the skills
to play the counterpoint. Finally\, in the Toccata e Fuga a Fantasia blend
s into an Adagio and then into the Fuga\, during which the opening Fantasia
reappears shortly\, in a continuous stream of music.\nTeatro della Pergola

DESCRIPTION:\nCourtesy of SEM-ART Gallery Monaco\n&nbsp\;\n&nbsp\;\nThe pro
ject was conceived and curated by Stefania Trolli’s Lalla’s Join in col
laboration with Luciano Caprile and with the participation of SEM-ART Galle
ry. It is promoted and organized by the Associazione San Cristoforo under A
rturo Nardini’s overall coordination.\nThe exhibition is laid out as an a
rtistic journey within the walls of the Romanesque church of San Cristoforo
and benefits from the patronage of the Senate of the Republic of Italy\, t
he Region of Tuscany\, the City of Lucca\, the Province of Lucca and the Ar
chdiocese of Lucca.\nAs of January 7\, the City of Lucca in Tuscany hosts t
he exhibit Chagall’s Spiritual Universe in the picturesque setting of the
Church of San Cristoforo. On display\, twenty precious oils and mixed medi
a on canvas by the Russian master created between 1959 and 1982. These are
extraordinary small paintings which explore Chagall’s inner world born fr
om his childhood memories set in Vitebsk then expressed in the nostalgic L
âne blanc dans le bouquet (1960-1965) or in the dreamy Profil du peintre
from his later years\, where through thought the artist flies back to his
native country.\nSpecial attention is given to Love whether it blossoms and
manifests itself in a tender embrace when touching a floral triumph (Le bo
uquet jaune c. 1975) or in a romantic ride in the sky to conquer the sun (D
ans le ciel de Saint-Paul c. 1980). And\, of course\, the circus theme is p
resent in the study of Chagall&#8217\;s poetic expression where reality and
fantasy coexist in parallel with the grace of movements and the role of th
e mask that preserves and protects innocence in a universe congenial to the
Russian master where he can direct the gaze of desire unfolding between Le
	 clown au visage bleu (c. 1980) and Le trapéziste (1978-1980). Finally\, w
hen Chagall portrays himself in Le peintre au village (1980-1982)\, he does
this not only “en plein air” but also “en plein esprit” depicting
himself at work surrounded by the places and the essential elements of his
poetics.\nLe roi David (1980) allows us to address the issue of religion\,
which was so dear to him. One hundred and five engravings on copper devoted
to illustrating the Bible produced between 1931 and 1939 that accompany th
e limited edition publication\, signed in the colophon by the author himsel
f and designed by Ambroise Vollard. The complete graphic sequence that narr
ates the events of the Bible is the worthy conclusion of the homage to Chag
all taking place during the holiday season.\nThe exhibition is accompanied
	by a catalogue curated by Luciano Caprile.\nOpening Hours: 10 a.m. – 7.30
	 p.m. / Monday 2.30 p.m. – 7.30 p.m.\nInformation: +39 (0) 583 957 660\nw

DESCRIPTION:By VisitArt\n\nThe Alinari National Museum of Photography in Fl
orence presents the first Italian exhibition dedicated to Brian Duffy\, a c
elebrated British artist from Swinging London\, who is famous for immortali
zing David Bowie on his record covers that caused a sensation\, such as tha
t of Aladdin Sane (1973)\, which depicts the singer with lightning-shaped m
ake-up on the face\, and which immediately became a pop icon image. Working
with the most popular newspapers and magazines\, Duffy has revolutionized
how fashion images are made\, creating the cult of the fashion photographer
by putting himself at the center of the runway with the models and the cel
ebrities. Since 1957\, when he began working for British Vogue\, Duffy shot
the portraits of many artists\, moving between film\, music\, advertising
\, fashion and literature. But\, at the peak of his career in 1979\, Duffy
decided to round up most of his work and bring it to the garden behind the
house\, where he made a bonfire. After many years of research among archive
	s and publications around the world\, his son\, Chris\, has recovered 160 p
hotographs\, putting together a true catalog of cultural iconography from t
he &#8217\;60s and &#8217\;70s. This show features 80 photographs\, selecte

DESCRIPTION:\nOn Friday\, January 13 at 6:30 pm\, the exhibit\, Piazza dei
Miracoli (Piazza of Miracles)\, will open at C2 Contemporanea2 in Florence.
The point of departure for this brilliant installation by Fabrizio Corneli
is the propagation of a base element\, which is\, in this case\, an inlay
from the pavement of the Piazza dei Miracoli in Pisa\, the area where the c
ity’s cathedral\, baptistery\, and bell tower are all located. The image
of the inlay is multiplied by three mirrors\, which the light overlaps\, lo
cking the geometric forms together in a precise manner by placing one over
the other\, so that they form a geometric system that is projected onto the
pavement.\nThe exhibit will run until March 17 and its opening hours are f
